Boris gives £14million boost to Palmers Green and Southgate!
1st April 2009
Two of the oldest running sores in Palmers Green and Southgate –the North Circular Road and Broomfield House- are set to be healed by decisions this week by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
At a TfL Board meeting the decision was made to confirm the necessary investment to complete the A406 Safety and Environmental Improvement scheme. Due to the economic downturn and falling TfL revenue there was pressure to defer the road scheme until 2012 and a recommendation had been tabled to this effect. However, following the personal intervention of local MP David Burrowes with representations made direct to Boris Johnson, the £8million required to carry out the road scheme was approved.
The good news for the area became even better when the Mayor announced that Enfield Council had been successful in their application for nearly £6million to restore Broomfield House.
David Burrowes said, “Two of the longest running problems in my constituency, the North Circular Road and Broomfield House, have been given great news this week. Previous administrations have failed to find a solution to these problems but at long last the future is bright for restoring Broomfield House and improving the North Circular Road area. I am confident that negotiations between TfL and the Council will lead to even more good news and the regeneration of properties which have been blighted and neglected for so many years.”
David added, “I am pleased that Boris listened to my representations to approve the budget for the road improvements which together with property regeneration will make such a difference to my constituents’ quality of life. Boris has lived up to his campaign pledge to be a Mayor who listen and acts in the best interests of Outer London.”
