David Burrowes tables Early Day Motion in support of Daily Mail campaign against extradition of Gary McKinnon
9th July 2009
Local MP David Burrowes has tabled an Early Day Motion commending the Daily Mail ‘Affront to British Justice’ campaign to prevent the extradition of Enfield resident Gary McKinnon to the United States on charges of computer hacking. The campaign, which was launched last week, has gained the backing of prominent MPs across parties, including Conservative and Liberal Democrat leaders David Cameron and Nick Clegg, and former Home Secretary David Blunkett.
The EDM states:
David said:
As Gary’s constituency MP I have been a longstanding campaigner in the fight for Gary and welcome the boost given to the campaign by the Daily Mail. The campaign has reached a crucial stage as we await the court’s judgement on 14th July. I hope the EDM that I have tabled in Parliament will provide additional pressure and command widespread support across the House. Time is running out for Gary and the Government has to act now to avert this injustice.
Gary McKinnon’s application for a judicial review of the extradition order is due to be heard in the High Court on 14th July.
