Broomfield Park's war memorial
17th August 2009
David Burrowes condemns the desecration of the Broomfield Park war memorial.
David said: "The desecration of Broomfield Park's war memorial is a desperately sad and sickening act. I hope that common decency prevails and the tablets remembering the war dead from Palmers Green are returned. If not I am resolved to make sure they are replaced.
As the nation remembers the heavy loss of life in Afghanistan, it is particularly shocking that such disregard has been shown for those brave people who we remember and honour from previous conflicts.
I was heartened that the Armistice Day memorial service was restored last year to a civic occasion. The criminal damage and theft is a kick in the teeth to the friends of the park and Council who have done such great work to improve the park and memorial garden."
