Burrowes announces firm financial commitment to restore Broomfield House
23rd April 2010
Yesterday David Burrowes attended the Friends of Broomfield Park's meeting to announce the excellent news that last week Enfield Council received from the Mayor's regional housing pot the first tranche of money - £500k - to restore Broomfield House and is now appointing a project manager. The remainder allocation of £5,5 million will be allocated in 2011/12 which is when the project will be delivered.
David Burrowes said "It is great news that the work to restore Broomfield House can now begin in earnest. We have a Conservative Mayor and Conservative Council together with a Conservative MP committed to restoring Broomfield House. For the last 25 years politicians have talked about the House whilst it has been left neglected as a burnt out shell. At last we have the promise backed up with money to begin the restoration. We can look forward to the year of the olympics heralding the restoration of Broomfield House, providing public access, community space, a cafe and sheltered accomodation. The only cloud on the horizon is the prospect of a Labour Council who are not fully supportive of the restoration plan. Labour failed to even mention parks in their local manifesto and failed to provide any reassurance to the meeting last night. Local residents do not forget that the Labour Group leader supported the House becoming a pub in the park. The choice for local residents is clear. If you want to save Broomfield House vote Conservative."
